The regular meeting of the Sound beach Civic Association was held on June 13, 2011, and was called to order at 7:35 PM. Board members present were William Pellenz, Jr., president; Bea Ruberto, vice president; Bob Caggiano, membership chair; and Mike Baselice and Mike Mellor, trustees. Lori Baldassare, Deputy Supervisor of the Highway Department, addressed drainage and erosion issues in Sound Beach as well as proposed placement of engraved bricks at the Vets Memorial. Legislator Sarah Anker addressed the membership and spoke about how she plans to help our community. Bill Pellenz reminded the membership that there would be board elections in July for two expired terms. Bill Pellenz and Bea Ruberto have declared that they would run for reelection. Bea Ruberto and Bill Pellenz awarded $1000 scholarships to Allyson Kaleita of Rocky Point High School and Jennifer Klang of Miller Place High School. Deborah Strauch, representing Councilwoman Jane Bonner, honored Allyson and Jennifer and presented them with certificates of congratulations. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.

 

07-11-2011 Meeting Elections were held for two expired terms on the board. George Kalamaras of the Office of Emergency Management presented the Town of Brookhaven Preparedness and Awards Show, which included information on the impacts of hurricanes, coastal storms, and man-made incidents as well the protective plans the Town has implemented to protects its residents.

Meeting Changes in board positions were announced. Bea Ruberto is now the president, and William Pellenz, Jr., is the vice president. Samra Brouk, Community Outreach Manager at Recyclebank.com, discussed the recycling program launched this month by the Town of Brookhaven that rewards residents for recycling. Area 9/11 ceremonies were announced.
